Walking With the Orishas -Part 3: Signs They’re Calling You & Simple Offerings to Begin

By now, you’ve heard the whispers. Maybe you’ve felt a shift when standing at the river, seen lightning crack a little louder in your dreams, or sensed someone with ancient power walking with you in silence.

When an Orisha is calling you, the message isn’t always loud it’s often layered, symbolic, and sacred.

In this post, we’ll explore:

  • How to recognize when an Orisha is reaching out

  • What dreams, synchronicities, and life patterns may mean

  • How to offer a simple, respectful spiritual bath

  • Basic prayers and offerings you can use to honor their energy

Let’s begin by learning how they speak.

🔮 Signs an Orisha May Be Calling You

Orishas are not imaginary—they are divine forces that interact with the living world. When they begin to reach for you, it’s usually through patterns, feelings, and dreams that won’t let you go.

Here are common signs, organized by Orisha—but remember, the message will always be personal to you.

🛁 How to Prepare a Simple Spiritual Bath (Omi Ẹrò)

Spiritual baths are powerful tools for cleansing, blessing, and aligning with divine energy. In Yoruba tradition, they’re often guided by divination—but here’s a gentle way to start with ancestral approval and intention.

🌿 Basic Cleansing Bath Recipe:

  • A handful of fresh basil, mint, or rosemary

  • A splash of Florida Water (or coconut water)

  • A small amount of sea salt

  • Optional: a white candle and a prayer

Boil the herbs gently in water. Let the mixture cool. Strain the herbs and take the water into the shower or bath. Pour it over your body from your head down while praying:

"Ori mi, cleanse me. Ancestors, clear my path. May all that is not mine be washed away."

This is not for physical hygiene, it’s for spiritual recalibration. Do this on a quiet evening, and sit in stillness after.

🌻 Simple Offerings to Begin

You don’t need elaborate rituals or altars to begin showing reverence. Here are a few easy, heartfelt ways to make spiritual offerings to the Orisha energies you're feeling called toward:

Orisha

Offerings

Element

Prayer Prompt

Obatala

White cloth, coconut water, shea butter

Mountains

“Bring me peace, patience, and clarity.”

Oshun

Honey, oranges, yellow flowers

Rivers

“Sweeten my life and open my heart to love.”

Ogun

Red palm oil, iron nails, cooked yam

Forests / Roads

“Clear my path and give me strength to endure.”

Shango

Plantains, spicy foods, rum

Thunder / Fire

“Ignite my courage and help me lead with honor.”

Oya

Eggplants, red wine, 9 pennies

Storms / Cemetery

“Help me release what no longer serves and grow through change.”

Esu

Candy, rum, smoked fish, coconuts

Crossroads

“Open my roads and teach me the language of spirit.”

Offer with sincerity. Speak from your heart. Leave offerings outside in nature (if culturally appropriate and eco-friendly), or on a small space in your home if tradition allows.

🗝️ Final Reminder: Let Spirit Guide, Not Ego

If an Orisha is calling you, they’ll make it known without forcing. Don’t chase titles or aesthetics. You don’t need beads or an altar right away. You need humility, intention, and listening.

If you're unsure which Orisha is reaching for you, or if it’s time to deepen your practice, consider a divination session with a trusted priest(ess) within the tradition. Guidance is a sacred gift and sometimes it’s how we best show respect to the path.
